Cash Discounting in the Register

September 10, 2025September 10, 2025

Cash Discounting lets you offer customers a discount when they choose to pay with cash only, helping offset processing fees and giving your store more flexibility in pricing.

How Cash Discounting Works

  • Store-Level Setting

Cash Discount must first be enabled on the processor side (through your integrated Payments provider). Once it’s active, Music Shop 360 automatically detects it and shows the Cash Discount settings in your account.

  • Discount Percentage

In your Settings > Integrations > Rain, you’ll see a new Cash Discount section (see below).

Here, you can set the Discount Percentage (up to two decimals). This percentage determines how much customers save when paying with cash.

  • Cash-Only Rule

The discount only applies when cash is the sole payment method used in a transaction.

Eligible & Ineligible Items

Cash Discount discounts apply only to certain line items:

Eligible

  • Products
  • Kits
  • Packages
  • Services
  • Classes
  • Misc. Products

Not Eligible (basically anything not mentioned as eligible listed above)

  • Layaways
  • Special Orders
  • Subscriptions
  • Rentals
  • Invoices
  • Work Orders
  • Payment Plans
  • Fees & Shipping
  • Care Plans
  • Gift Cards
  • Trial Purchases
  • etc.

(Ineligible items usually involve deposits, contracts, or multiple payment steps.)

At the Register (Till)

  • Cash Button Savings

Before choosing a payment method, the Cash button shows the amount customers would save by paying with cash (e.g., “Save $1.02”), as pictured above.

  • Cash Payment Panel

    When adding a cash payment:

    • If cash is the only method and the amount qualifies, the Cash Discount discount is applied and shown clearly.
    • If other payment methods are used, a message will display: “Ineligible for Cash Discount – Non-Cash Payment Used.”
  • Discounts & Coupons Popup

The Cash Discount discount is listed just like a coupon, but it cannot be removed unless you switch to a non-cash payment method.

  • Receipts & Transaction Views

Cash Discount appears on receipts and in the transaction view alongside other discounts and coupons.

Important Notes

  • If Cash Discount is enabled but you haven’t set a percentage, you’ll see a reminder in the Register prompting you to configure it.
  • Cash Discount discounts ignore normal coupon / discount eligibility rules—they apply to all eligible items, even if normally excluded from other promotions.
